SEPTEMBER 7
To our fellow attendees, It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that FrostCon will be going on indefinite hiatus and this past year might have been our final convention, ever. When FrostCon began back in 2012, it wasn't just trying to be your normal everyday convention; we just wanted to share our love of all things cosplay and costuming with the local community. There was no reason why it should have taken off as it did except that people really wanted it to. They believed in it, devoted time, energy and funds to it, and they grew to love it. Attending FrostCon each year was like a family reunion - some of the people there might drive you bonkers, but there's still love on all sides. The affection and support shown to us is immeasurable. I value each of your friendships and the dedication that helped grow the convention into what it has become. Lack of an annual FrostCon is going to create a void in my life which will be hard to fill. There are many reasons for this decision and it was not an easy decision to put FrostCon into hiatus or end it. But over the last few years, Toronto and Southern Ontario have gone from having one or two conventions a month to having several dozen a year. It was only a matter of time until the community started to chose to save their money for the biggest and best conventions, leaving funds spread thinly. As a fan-run convention, unfortunately FrostCon's time might have run out. 'Farewell' is a simple word with a complicated meaning. I believe that the best way to remember FrostCon is with smiles and stories, and hope you do too. We encourage everyone to share their memories and experiences via the hashtag #ReflectionsOfFrost on social media, and I hope that you will add your own positive comments. You can also share your photos on our Facebook page. And while this may have been our final farewell, you might see a future return of FrostCon, it just won’t be within the format that you have all come to love and care about. We cannot express to you all how much this decision pains us to announce. In the time running this convention we have met so many awesome cosplayers and members of the local community and it hurts that we might never be apart of your yearly convention plans again. From the very bottom of our hearts, we are sorry and hope you can all understand. But keep an eye out for us at other local conventions and events and make sure to hold onto the friends and memories you have made well attending the last 4 FrostCon’s and remember to support and love the many other great conventions that are within your local community. With kindest regards, The FrostCon Staff Team Below are a few goodbye messages from some of our staff team "I would like to thank all of the FrostCon staff from over the years from the bottom of my heart. The last five years have been an amazing experience that I will never forget. The dedication and work that everyone put into this con was what made it what it was. Thank you to all of our guests who made each year unique and special, I've gotten to meet so many talented and amazing artists, I've gotten to meet cosplayers that I have looked up to since my very first cosplay and it still floors me. Thank you to all of our exhibitor's, some who have been with us since the very beginning and I looked forward to seeing you every year. And of course thank you to all of our attendees. Without you this con wouldn't have ever happened, and I loved seeing everyone's stories and comments of what they did that weekend. Seeing everyone have a good time was the best reward for our hard work. Thank you to everyone who made FrostCon what it was" Jax Perkins Con Chair "Working with FrostCon was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. I've been here from the very beginning, and I was here until the very end. I've made friends here that I imagine I would have never become so close with if it weren't for this con. I'm saddened that we must let something we worked so hard for go, but it's a choice that was not made lightly. If it weren't for FrostCon and the other amazing staff, I would not have come as far as I have. With the closing of one door, others will open. FrostCon has opened up so many opportunities for many of us, now it's our job to do something with it. We will continue to move forward, and remain ever thankful for the experiences, friendships and memories we've had and made. I want to thank everyone, our attendees, guests, vendors, volunteers and staff for the amazing times we were able to have. I want to especially thank you all for how faithful you've been over the years. Through bad weather, venue changes, subway shut downs, and a hiatus, you've stuck with us through thick and thin, and I cannot for the life of me thank you all enough. We would have never been able to come this far if it weren't for your amazing support. I'm incredibly proud of how far we've come, and I'm glad to say I'm a part of this family. Until we meet again, I will miss you all." Marcus Hutton Floor Manager "This was my first year I spent as a member of the FrostCon staff, and I feel incredibly lucky to have participated in its last year. The people I met both amongst staff and the attendees made all of the hard work put into it, worth it. Both the experience and the people are something I can't put into words, but am so deeply grateful for and while FrostCon may not continue, I hope that the Ontario convention community continues to prosper and advance." Thanks and farewell Oliver Arbuckle Weapons Master “I would truly like to thank everyone that played a part in our success. It feels like yesterday that myself and a small group of friends decided that putting on a cosplay convention was a brilliant idea. And five years later, I find myself at the end of this adventure. Although it may feel a little bittersweet, I am truly excited for what else life has in store. Creating FrostCon brought so much into my life and it was an absolute pleasure to bring this convention to Toronto and the Ontario communities.” Anthony Terlizzi FrostCon Founder |
